Our next WVARA meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 10, in Meeting Room 3 at the Silicon Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, 2731 N. First Street at Plumeria Drive (southwest corner) in San Jose. \u00a0This month\u2019s presentation will also be viewable online via Zoom. Zoom login details will be released via WVARA\u2019s chat reflector the day before the meeting.


Social time begins around 6:30 PM, with the meeting officially starting at 7:00 PM. If you haven\u2019t been to the Red Cross in a while, \u201ctalk-in\u201d is usually available on the Association\u2019s repeaters. The best choice would be 2m\/220.


Several of us meet for dinner prior to the meeting at 5:30 PM at nearby Dish N Dash (2551 N. 1st St., San Jose). \u00a0Feel free to join us.


This month\u2019s topic: \u00a0All about the California Historical Radio Society. \u00a0Before Wi-Fi, smartphones, and streaming, there were spark transmitters, crystal sets, and glowing vacuum tubes. Rachel Lee, the Executive Director of the California Historical Radio Society will tell us about the work being done to preserve the\u00a0technologies and stories that shaped modern electronic communication. This presentation includes a fast-paced virtual tour of the California Historical Radio Society Museum which is located in Alameda.



The California Historical Radio Society (CHRS) was begun in 1974 by a small group of passionate collectors and radio enthusiasts, with parking lot swap meets and exchanges of vintage parts, radios, and ideas. Over the years, it has grown into a respected and trusted nonprofit organization\u00a0offering educational programs, a permanent museum and research library, vintage equipment restoration, and acting as a hub for historical radio events. \u00a0


Following Rachel\u2019s presentation, we will also have a short status discussion of our club\u2019s Field Day plans. \u00a0(WVARA will be participating in Field Day from Mora Hill the weekend of June 26-28.)

**Three things to remember:**
* We recommend entering through the main entrance on the north side of the building.
* The Red Cross locks the main entrance at 7:00 PM sharp, so please arrive early to gain access to the building.
* We will be in Meeting Room 3\u2014about 100 feet from any entrance. As a result, latecomers who knock on an outside door may not be heard.
