Instead, we will hold a virtual meeting via Zoom at 7pm on Wednesday, April 8.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>At this month\u2019s meeting Edison Fong, WB6IQN, will bring us up to speed on DMR (Digital Mobile Radio). \u00a0This mode is getting really popular.\u00a0\u00a0The radios cost about $100-$150 depending on the quality you want.\u00a0\u00a0All of them\u00a0\u00a0also have conventional FM.\u00a0\u00a0DMR is a full digital format that is interfaced via the internet where one can 24\/7 talk all over the world.\u00a0\u00a0The dream of working DX sitting on\u00a0your couch is here.\u00a0\u00a0Since it is an open system originally set up\u00a0\u00a0by Motorola there are over 15 manufacturers of DMR radios \u2013 both hand held and mobiles. \u00a0Learn how to get register as a DMR user, where to purchase a radio, how to program the radio and talk to the world without depending on propagation conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-cdn.wvara.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/03074303\/EdFong-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1085\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp-cdn.wvara.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/03074303\/EdFong-1.jpeg 640w, https:\/\/wp-cdn.wvara.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/03074303\/EdFong-1-300x199.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Ed is a design consultant and has worked at Loral Space System, Microsoft and&nbsp;National Semiconductor. He is a senior member of&nbsp;the IEEE.
